AGT, NextCure & Vita Therapeutics’s Douglas Falk Among MTC 2022 Industry Awards Finalists

Every year the Maryland Tech Council recognizes its member companies who have made significant impact in their respective fields at an annual awards ceremony.  The Industry Awards include such recognitions as CEO of the Year, Emerging Company of the Year, Life Science Company of the Year, and others.

Among the finalists for the Life Science CEO of the year is Douglas Falk, CEO of Vita Therapeutics who led the company through an oversubscribed $32M Series A to Advance the Development of Therapies to Treat Muscular Dystrophies. After taking the company public in 2019 they finished 2021 with a team of over 90 people in their Beltsville, MD facility that includes an in-house manufacturing operation. Life Sciences Company of the Year finalist, American Gene Technologies (AGT), made global news in 2021 with the advancement of their HIV Cure program, AGT103-T. The HIV gene therapy received the FDA green light in 2020 and in May 2021 AGT announced it has infused the first patient in the groundbreaking study. In December, data from the first three patients showed efficacy through critical blood markers of the HIV Cure Cell Therapy; Engraftment, Persistence, and Function of Infused Cells. AGT103-T is designed as a cure for the disease that has wreaked havoc across the globe since the 1980s, and 2021 was a monumental year that brought that goal much closer to reality and increased the hope of millions of patients around the world.
