Steve Surdez Joins WorkForce Genetics as Senior Content Specialist

WorkForce Genetics welcomes Steve Surdez as its new Senior Content Specialist. Steve is a familiar face to the BioBuzz community, having served as a contract writer for the past four years. In this role he will be responsible for writing and developing content across several fronts, with a focus on developing compelling content for BioBuzz’s Featured Employers.

Steve is a storyteller at his core and has a passion for sharing the stories of BioHealth Capital Region life sciences companies and the people that make it a great place to live and work.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Chris and Adam for a number of years before deciding to join the team full time. It’s truly remarkable how much the team has grown since then—I can vividly recall when it was just a few of us huddled together in a library conference room plotting our next move. No company in the area is more tied in to the life sciences community and its needs, and no organization cares more about bringing it together to celebrate and grow. I had a good gig running my own thing, but joining what I know is a great group of dedicated, knowledgeable, talented, and fun folks was really just a no brainer.”

Prior to joining WorkForce Genetics, Steve operated his own content company. Steve brings nearly twenty years of experience in marketing and content creation to the WorkForce Genetics team, the last five of which have focused exclusively on the region’s life sciences market. In his career, he has been part of internal communications at a large biotech and has deep experience on the agency side as a project manager and content creator. Steve loves crafting informative content and working with partners, companies, and individuals to share their unique stories and showcase their work.

“We are so excited to welcome Steve to the team as our first full-time writer,” said Sarah Ellinwood, Ph.D., Managing Editor at Workforce Genetics/BioBuzz. “His talent for storytelling is going to help elevate our editorial strategy to a whole new level, not only as we continue to grow in the BioHealth Capital Region, but in other markets as well.”

Steve holds a BA in English from Providence College and an MA in American Literature from Montclair State University. He lives in Frederick, Maryland with his wife, two sons, and the family dog. In his free time he enjoys hanging out with his family, watching his sons play baseball, and routing for his beloved New York Mets and Knicks. Steve is also an avid reader and fisherman.
