BioTrain is a sector partnership of biotechnology companies, government entities, and nonprofit organizations led by Montgomery College that collaborates to shape a technical workforce that is ready for today and tomorrow. The program is located at Montgomery College’s Bioscience Education Center (BEC) and is a critical element to the BioHealth Capital Region’s (BHCR) workforce development ecosystem.
Institutes such as the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) have been assets to the growing biopharmaceutical manufacturing community. The institute aims to accelerate biopharmaceutical innovation, support the development of standards that enable more efficient and rapid manufacturing capabilities, and educate the next workforce generation. A part of Manufacturing USA®, the organization receives both federal and private funding, and its membership is extensive, including both biopharmaceutical companies and academic institutes.

Caleb McKinney, Ph.D., MPS, is committed to advocacy and career formation of graduate students, postdoctoral and clinical fellows. His research focus is on career transitions in the biomedical workforce, with an emphasis on designing and evaluating interventions that facilitate these transitions. Dr. McKinney is the Assistant Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Training & Development for Biomedical Graduate Education and Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Georgetown University Medical Center.

Nikki Marchan is public health professional who is passionate about progressing the study of infectious diseases for enhanced prevention, detection, and response. As a Senior Specialist with the Association of Public Health Laboratories, she provides support for laboratory and surveillance activities and works on behalf of and in collaboration with public health laboratories, federal partners, and other public health organizations.
After 25 years with an extensive track record of success in the Medical Device space, Bucky Polk joined SBI in July 2020. He is a well-rounded executive with a vast collection of skills and experiences. Colleagues and customers have said that his authenticity, candor, and ability to connect with people are what set him apart. In his most recent role for Philips, he was responsible for the customer engagement of the most influential global Interventional Cardiologists, Vascular Surgeons, and Interventional Radiologists.
