Stefanie brings hands-on research experience in cellular immunology, from basic research to clinical trials, along with data analysis consulting and customer support. Most recently, as a data scientist in flow cytometry with Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, she enjoyed really moving life science research to fruition through data analysis by helping companies make data-driven decisions in their studies. Stefanie holds a B.S./B.A. from the University of Rochester and a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She is currently also pursuing a Master of Biotechnology Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Johns Hopkins University. After living, learning, and working in Maryland, she is excited to support the strong local network of life science institutions that create global impacts.

Maryland Commerce Supports Research Professorships at Eight Higher Education Institutions

The Maryland Department of Commerce joined eight local colleges and universities in endowing a total of $21.2 million to fund a dozen new research professorships. The endowments were made through the Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative (MEI), a state program created to spur basic and applied research in scientific and technical fields at the colleges and universities. The schools raised a total of more than $10.6 million in private funding for each chair and Maryland Commerce approved matching grants of $10.6 million to support the endowments.

When high levels are found, physicians typically turn to a diagnostic biopsy using a transrectal route. However, a Maryland urologist has developed a different approach through the perineum, the strip of skin between the rectum and scrotum that is safer and more effective.

The Maryland Department of Commerce has appointed Margia Argüello as Sr. Business Development Manager, BioHealth and Life Sciences, Office of Strategic Industries and Entrepreneurship. She has been tasked with cultivating and coordinating opportunities to expand, retain, and attract biohealth and life sciences businesses in Maryland. This includes the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to address the needs of the industry, such as talent attraction and workforce development; capital investment activity expansion; as well as technology transfer and commercialization strategies. Margia will also be working closely with entrepreneurs, start-ups, and early-stage life sciences companies to navigate the resources available to them throughout the Maryland life sciences ecosystem.
