Within the next five years, there are expected to be hundreds or thousands of positions opening in the Maryland life sciences ecosystem. And that number is likely to continue to grow. In order to ensure an abundance of available talent, introducing teens to career opportunities in the biopharmaceutical industry may be necessary.
Vigene, a gene therapy development company, said it intends to lease a 52,000 square-foot manufacturing space at 14200 Shady Grove Road that will nearly double the company’s existing manufacturing footprint. The new space is in addition to its existing headquarters, R&D, and manufacturing locations that opened in Rockville last year. The additional space from the new facility will allow the company to expand its current headcount of 125 by the addition of 245 more employees.

The 6th annual Biohealth Capital Region (BHCR) Forum kicks off on October 19th. This year’s event will be held virtually and will bring together the top biotech and life science executives and expert speakers from across the industry, academia, healthcare, government, finance, and real estate development, among others.
Ulyana Desiderio joined the Maryland Department of Commerce in April 2020 as Director of BioHealth and Life Sciences. She leads efforts that support the growth of Maryland’s life sciences community, including job creation, capital investment, and new business formation.
