Building STEPS was started in 1995 when Debra Hettleman’s brother-in-law Matthew Weinberg, a scientific consultant in DC, wanted to boost diversity in his workplace. He went into the DC school system with the goal of starting a program where he could bring underrepresented students to intern at his business, giving them a taste of what a STEM career can entail. They’d learn and get excited about the field, and he would help them get into college with the hopes that they would work in the sciences.

ABERDEEN, Md. – The Aberdeen Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) has demonstrated its commitment to higher education by establishing a new scholarship supporting STEM students.
AFCEA’s generous donation of $5,000 will provide financial assistance to students from Cecil County and Harford County who are enrolled in the Bioproduction program at Cecil College. This scholarship will be distributed through the Cecil College Foundation.
Scholarship recipients and college representatives will be invited to attend the AFCEA’s annual scholarship dinner in the spring at Water’s Edge Restaurant. AFCEA Aberdeen Chapter provides scholarship funding to students in Harford and Cecil counties who obtain a higher education certificate or degree in a STEM-related curriculum.
AFCEA is a non-profit association serving the military, government, industry, and academia as a forum for advancing professional knowledge and relationships in communications, information technology, intelligence, and global security. Hood College Receives $2.3M from Hodson Trust in Annual Gift – Hood College News

Hood College is proud to announce that The Hodson Trust has gifted $2.3M to the College for use in the Hodson Science and Technology Center expansion project.
This project includes a 32,000-gross-square-foot addition, which includes a new Biomedical Research and Training Center to accommodate growth in STEM programs. The Hodson Science and Technology Center was originally constructed in 1957, with additional renovation projects completed in 2000 and 2014.
