Risser steps into the role after serving as MacroGenics’ Chief Operating Officer since 2022, where he oversaw key company functions and led corporate development initiatives that have generated over $1.6 billion in non-dilutive capital. He joined the company in 2009 to lead business development and has held positions of increasing operational and strategic responsibility over his 15-year tenure.

“Eric is a highly strategic leader who brings almost 30 years of biotech and pharmaceutical industry experience, with a track record of value creation, effective portfolio management and creative deal-making,” said Bill Heiden, Chair of MacroGenics’ Board. “Eric has a compelling vision for MacroGenics, and the Board and I are enthusiastic about helping bring it to life.”

Prior to MacroGenics, Risser was Senior Director in Corporate Development at Johnson & Johnson, and earlier in his career held roles in investment banking, venture capital, and strategy consulting. He earned his M.B.A. from Stanford University and a B.A. from Yale University.

Risser succeeds Scott Koenig, M.D., Ph.D., MacroGenics’ founding CEO, who led the company for 24 years and will continue to serve as a Director and advisor. Under Koenig’s leadership, MacroGenics developed three FDA-approved products and established itself as a leading player in oncology innovation.

“My goal is to create an even more focused and capital-efficient biotechnology company that delivers novel, high-value therapies to patients battling cancer,” Risser said. “I will be working closely with the entire executive team and Board to ensure MacroGenics is investing resources where we believe we can generate significant value for both patients and shareholders alike.”
