Partnership will spotlight hands-on biomanufacturing training and career pathways for students, career seekers and employers across Maryland
Baltimore, MD. Oct. 07, 2026— BioBuzz today announced that BioHub Maryland, the life sciences workforce initiative powered by the Maryland Tech Council, has joined its BioCatalyst workforce program as an Education + Ecosystem Partner. Through July 2027, the partnership will bring BioHub’s hands-on biomanufacturing training to students, career seekers and employers across Maryland through BioBuzz’s news coverage, events and digital platform.
BioCatalyst is BioBuzz’s early-career workforce program, funded through TEDCO’s Equitech Growth Fund and built to grow a broader and more diverse life sciences talent pipeline. Each fall, spring and summer, a cohort of student ambassadors completes a 12-week experiential internship: an immersive industry bootcamp, visits to companies and events across the BioHealth Capital Region, weekly career development with a dedicated mentor, and weekly articles and social content published on BioBuzz. Open to undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and recent graduates in any field, the program shows students there is a path into life sciences no matter what they study.
BioHub Maryland trains Marylanders of all backgrounds for careers in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Its 8,200-square-foot Training and Education Center in Rockville is designed to replicate real-world production environments, pairing classroom instruction with immersive lab training in upstream processing, cell culture, quality control and other skills used to make vaccines, gene therapies and other biologics. BioHub is the only organization in the National Capital Region teaching the globally recognized curriculum of the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT), and participants can earn professional certificates recognized by leading employers.
“Maryland has the employers, the science and the momentum. What it needs now is more people who can see themselves in these careers and a clear path to getting the industry-specific skills they need to get hired,” said Chris Frew, CEO of BioBuzz. “BioHub Maryland is building exactly that kind of path, and we’re excited to share the stories of the people coming through its doors with our whole community.”
In its first two years, BioHub Maryland has trained hundreds of Marylanders, including college students, high school graduates, military veterans, displaced federal employees and current life sciences employees. Among displaced federal workers who trained through a Maryland Department of Labor EARN grant, 80 percent secured new employment afterward. BioHub has also established partnerships with Bowie State University, WorkSource Montgomery and other organizations to widen access to training and careers.
As a BioCatalyst partner, BioHub Maryland will be featured throughout the year in BioBuzz articles, podcasts and social media, which reach more than 400,000 readers through BioBuzz’s website, email newsletters and social channels. Its courses will appear in the BioBuzz event calendar and in BioBuzz’s new training marketplace, which will give users one place to search for and enroll in life sciences training from across the region. BioHub will also take part in BioCatalyst LIVE and the Executive Workforce Roundtable in December, and will be included in the Year One BioCatalyst Impact Report to the State of Maryland.
