BioBuzz has been connecting the life science workforce since 2009. We’ve built an expansive community in the Mid-Atlantic with a national readership that spans from Massachusettes to Florida, and New York to California. For our next chapter, we’re building a proprietary talent logistics model to help employers source and hire life science talentLearn more.

The new HJF Innovation Labs at Montgomery County is a co-branded innovation facility affiliated with Montgomery County Business.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and HJF President & CEO Joseph Caravalho Jr., M.D., M.G., U.S. Army, retired announced this dynamic new partnership between Montgomery County Government and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) this week. This new partnership solidifies an important component within HJF’s Innovation Ecosystem and is poised to significantly boost the commercialization of military medicine, further reinforcing Montgomery County’s reputation as a top U.S. biotech hub.

The announcement was made during an engaging inaugural event held in partnership with BioBuzz and MCEDC that marked the beginning of a series aimed at networking and education. This session brought together a vibrant community of over 100 local entrepreneurs, HJF scientists, and FDA experts in a discussion about navigating the FDA’s approval process. The event highlighted the collaborative spirit of our community.

The HJF Innovation Labs at Montgomery County will be managed by the Montgomery County Business Center Innovation Network (BCIN). This co-branded facility is strategically positioned to harness the collective resources, expertise, and investment needed to support investigators working within HJF’s extensive $600M research portfolio to advance HJF-developed technologies from the drawing board to point-of-care applications for military service members and their families.

The initiative will fund the development of 4,300 square feet of flexible “mini” wet labs, shared lab spaces, an engineering area, business offices, and additional workspaces located within the Foundation’s headquarters. This buildout aims to fully leverage HJF’s existing infrastructure, which includes a state-of-the-art auditorium and meeting rooms, alongside comprehensive business expertise in fields such as intellectual property, information technology, commercialization, proposal development, and clinical trial management.

This latest announcement builds upon additional partnerships that HJF is establishing to further its innovation ecosystem, including a historic MOU signed in March 2023 between HJF and TEDCO.

The new incubator is expected to open in the winter of 2025.
