Baltimore, MD – April 4, 2024 – BioBuzz and Scheer Partners, in collaboration with Life Science Cares (LSC) Philadelphia, announced the details of its anticipated inaugural Awards Celebration for Greater Philadelphia. Thirty finalists in six categories will be recognized at LSC Philadelphia’s prestigious 2024 Impact Reception on Wednesday, May 1, from 6:00-8:00pm at The Curtis Atrium, located at 601 Walnut Street.
“We are extremely honored to be a part of LSC’s Impact Reception and deeply grateful to the team and our growing partnership,” said Chris Frew, CEO of BioBuzz. “Our Annual Awards have always been so much more than a BioBuzz “event.” They’re symbolic of the larger community and the role that we all play in uplifting the industry and those making an impact. Launching our inaugural Awards in Philadelphia as part of Life Science Cares established Impact Reception is a testament to just how powerful community and collaboration are.”
Life Science Cares is dedicated to harnessing the resources of the life sciences industry to disrupt cycles of poverty in local communities. With operations spanning across five key locations, including Boston, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and Philadelphia, LSC has consistently demonstrated its commitment to making a tangible impact.
The Impact Reception serves as LSC Philadelphia’s premier fundraising event, bringing together hundreds of industry leaders and ecosystem builders to celebrate the achievements of the leading poverty-fighting organizations supported by LSC and foster collective impact within the life sciences community.
“In my journey of personal growth, I have been reflecting on “short-term discomfort for long-term impact” in many contexts,” said Brandi Burgess, Director of Development (Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships) at Life Science Cares Philadelphia. “It comes into focus a lot as we develop our work at Life Science Cares Philadelphia. We have to put aside our personal brands and move through iterations that can feel like hardships in order to continually refine our focus toward our North Star, which is the nonprofit cohort we invest in and amplify. If we are not serving them as they lead the change-making work of disrupting cycles of poverty in Philadelphia, we have lost the thread. I try to ask myself “does this move our mission forward” before every move, and sometimes the answer is one that does not reflect stasis, but invites agile change.”
“This also came into focus as I watched our friends at BioBuzz make the brave decision to respond to their community’s needs and double down on their commitment to bringing opportunity for workforce development to our burgeoning industry,” she continued. This resulted in the unfortunate stoppage of plans for their upcoming physical celebration of their BioBuzz industry awards, where LSC was planning to be a community partner. With an approaching Impact Reception aimed at celebrating and advancing our mission, we invited BioBuzz to share our platform and amplify the world-changing work of our industry’s leaders, many of whom are also members of the Life Science Cares network of good.”
BioBuzz’s Annual Awards were established in 2020 to celebrate the people, programs, and organizations who go above and beyond to support the success of the life science industry, the local ecosystem, and the patients who ultimately benefit.
Six categories and winners are recognized annually: Leadership Award, Community Builder Award, Workforce Champion of the Year Award, Startup of the Year Award, Breakthrough Company of the Year Award, and Employer of the Year Award.
A nomination period, followed by a voting period precedes the annual in-person celebration where winners are announced. BioBuzz’s 2023 Awards mark the fourth for the BioHealth Capital Region (Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia) and the first for Greater Philadelphia where BioBuzz expanded into the region in late-2022 through its regional media coverage.
Scheer Partners, Inc, an advisory board member of Life Science Cares and longtime BioBuzz partner will feature our nominees in their BioBlast video series highlighting their work and contributions to the life science community.
BioBuzz finalists, winners, and community members will join the Life Science Cares community and key stakeholders for a collaborative 2024 Impact Reception. Tickets are on sale now. Learn more or register at https://lifesciencecares.org/?post_type=events&p=28335.
