Applications are open for BioBuzz’s Learn & Launch in Life Sciences Internship — an immersive, 12-week hybrid experience built to provide the foundational knowledge, hands-on experience, and industry connections to launch your career — no prior background required. Open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students (master’s and PhD), postdoctoral fellows, and recent graduates across all majors and areas of study. Participants build a professional portfolio through weekly published content, a dedicated industry mentor, weekly career development programming, and exclusive, hands-on access to companies, events, and experiences across the BioHealth Capital Region. The internship is an engagement of the BioCatalyst Program, funded through TEDCO’s Equitech Growth Fund.

Emergent BioSolutions eliminates top R&D role in sweeping restructuring
Gaithersburg-based Emergent BioSolutions will lay off 93 employees and remove 21 open positions in a company-wide restructuring announced alongside its Q2 earnings, part of a push to save $40 million annually as its Narcan franchise faces new competition. The overhaul eliminates the chief medical officer and head of R&D role entirely, folding R&D, business development, and strategy under a single new chief growth officer position held by Stephanie Duatschek. Taysha Gene Therapies and Catalent have signed a commercial supply agreement naming Catalent the primary commercial manufacturer of TSHA-102, Taysha’s investigational AAV-based gene therapy for Rett syndrome, pending FDA approval. Maryland Opens FY2027 Biotech Investment Tax Credit — Up to $250K Back for Investors
Maryland’s Biotechnology Investment Incentive Tax Credit (BIITC) is now accepting FY2027 applications, giving investors who back early-stage Maryland biotech companies a refundable state income tax credit worth 33% of their investment, up to $250,000 — or 50% (up to $500,000) for companies in Allegany, Dorchester, Garrett, or Somerset County, with Opportunity Zone credits reaching up to $750,000.
