Bristol Myers Squibb is building a new $2.3 billion manufacturing campus at Generation Park in Houston, Texas, one of the larger single manufacturing investments the company has made in the U.S. in recent years. The roughly 600,000-square-foot facility will produce a mix of small molecules, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates, handling drug product and finished goods from late-stage development through commercial launch.
What’s Actually Getting Built
Construction and buildout run from 2027 through 2030, and BMS expects the campus to create nearly 500 skilled, permanent positions once operational, alongside roughly 2,000 construction and indirect jobs during the build-out years. CEO Christopher Boerner tied the investment to the company’s broader U.S. manufacturing strategy: “This investment reflects our confidence in America’s continued leadership in biopharmaceutical innovation. As part of our $40 billion commitment to the United States, we’re building the domestic manufacturing capabilities needed to deliver the next generation of medicines and support future scientific breakthroughs.” Karin Shanahan, EVP and Chief Supply Chain and Operations Officer, pointed to Houston’s specific advantages: “Our decision to build this state-of-the-art manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas, reflects our confidence in the region’s ability to support a world-class, digitally advanced supply operation.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick both weighed in as well, with Abbott calling Texas “a global hub for life sciences, where today’s innovations shape the future of healthcare,” and Lutnick framing the investment within the administration’s trade policy: “We are making pharmaceuticals in America again thanks to President Trump’s America First Trade Agenda.”
