Cencora Launches Cell and Gene Therapy Enablement to Help Health Systems Build and Scale Programs

Just 4% of health system pharmacy leaders report being fully prepared to integrate cell and gene therapies, even as more than 35 have already won FDA approval and over 1,700 clinical trials are underway globally. Cencora, Inc. (Conshohocken, Pennsylvania) announced on September 2, 2026 the launch of Cell and Gene Therapy Enablement through its Accelerate Pharmacy Solutions (APS) portfolio, a new offering meant to help health systems evaluate, build, and scale CGT programs. Ryan Telford, VP of Health System Pharmacy Portfolio Strategy at APS, said: “Cell and gene therapies have the potential to transform care for patients with serious and complex diseases, but delivering them requires coordinated execution across strategy, finance, clinical operations, pharmacy and patient access.”

What the New Service Actually Offers

The offering is built around three pillars. Financial confidence covers CGT market assessment, therapy-specific financial considerations, reimbursement dynamics, and site-of-care considerations. Operational readiness covers readiness assessments, gap analysis, strategic roadmap development, governance design, and workflow planning. Scalable growth focuses on establishing repeatable operating models that coordinate strategy, finance, clinical operations, pharmacy, and patient access teams as a health system expands into new therapies, sites, or indications. Telford described the approach as building “on our existing capabilities to provide health systems with tailored support – from market landscape and readiness assessments to governance design, implementation and optimization – to help them launch or expand their CGT programs.”

Why Cencora Sees an Opening Now

Louis Cicchini, Senior Director of Scientific Affairs and Strategic Partnerships for the CGT Service Line, tied the launch to a structural gap in the industry: “Fulfilling the clinical promise of these therapies is heavily dependent on health systems strategically expanding their capabilities. As an industry, we have to collaborate across silos to sustainably deliver advanced therapies and make accessing that care easier for patients.” The release does not name specific health system partners already using the service or say when broader availability begins.
