Charlottesville’s Adovate Wraps Its Summer Internship Program With UVA and CvilleBioHub

Adovate, LLC, the Charlottesville, Virginia-based biopharmaceutical company, announced on August 24, 2026 the completion of a summer internship initiative built in partnership with CvilleBioHub, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), and the University of Virginia, welcoming four undergraduate interns into chemistry laboratory, AI workflow, and business strategy roles. CFO/COO Uday Gupta said: “As Adovate continues to grow, investing in the next generation of life sciences talent is an important part of our mission. We are fortunate to have access to exceptional talent at the University of Virginia. These students quickly became valuable members of our team, bringing curiosity, initiative, and fresh perspectives to meaningful projects.”

Four Roles, Two Talent Pipelines

The internship program spanned two distinct tracks. Two Chemistry Laboratory interns, brought on through CvilleBioHub’s CHIP program, gained direct experience in laboratory operations, synthesis support, analytical testing, scientific documentation, and drug discovery research. Meanwhile, an AI Workflow & Business Systems intern and a Strategy & Operations intern, supported through VEDP’s InternshipsVA program, worked closely with executive leadership on high-impact initiatives covering artificial intelligence implementation, operational efficiency, business strategy, and organizational development.

The dual-track structure reflects a broader reality in biotech: scientific breakthroughs alone don’t build a company. The business, operations, and AI-implementation roles that support a drug discovery pipeline require the same kind of early, hands-on development as bench science does. By giving non-scientist interns direct executive exposure alongside their lab-based peers, Adovate is investing in the operational and technical foundation that growing biopharmaceutical companies need — not just the next generation of scientists, but the next generation of the people who help scientists’ work scale into a functioning company.

Part of Virginia’s Broader Biotech Workforce Push

Gupta tied the program to a larger state-level effort to connect university talent with Virginia’s biotech sector: “Programs like CvilleBioHub CHIP and VEDP’s InternshipsVA create a powerful bridge between Virginia’s universities and its growing biotechnology sector. Our participation in both programs demonstrates the strength of Virginia’s innovation ecosystem. Partnerships among the University of Virginia, CvilleBioHub, VEDP, and companies like Adovate are helping build the skilled workforce that will drive the Commonwealth’s biotechnology industry forward.” Adovate’s own pipeline centers on adenosine receptor-modulating therapies for respiratory conditions, infectious diseases, cancer, non-opioid pain, and immunological disorders, developed in collaboration with the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The company said it plans to continue expanding its internship program into the 2026–2027 academic year, including additional laboratory opportunities for UVA students in chemistry, biology, engineering, and related scientific fields.
