Navion Neurosciences, Inc., a preclinical-stage biotech headquartered at the Commonwealth Bio Accelerator in Charlottesville, Virginia, announced on September 9, 2026 the first closing of a $10.8 million seed financing round led by the Angelini Lumira Biosciences Fund.
Founder and CEO Andrew J. Krouse framed the science behind the raise: “Human genetics and advances in sodium-channel pharmacology are creating an opportunity to design much more precise medicines for diseases driven by pathological neuronal firing. This financing enables us to advance differentiated programs built around compelling NaV biology while continuing to expand a discovery platform capable of generating multiple new medicines. We are building on our team’s deep knowledge and expertise in ion-channel science and drug development to develop better treatments for patients living with uncontrolled seizures and chronic pain.”
Targeting Sodium Channels With an AI-Enabled Platform
Navion is developing precision sodium-channel medicines aimed at neuronal hyperexcitability, the pathological overfiring of neurons implicated in genetic epilepsy and chronic neuropathic pain. The company’s NaViGATion™ platform integrates AI-enabled chemistry, structural biology, human disease biology, and ion-channel expertise to discover and develop what it calls differentiated therapeutics for these conditions; the proceeds from this round will support advancing Navion’s lead programs in both indications alongside continued platform development.
A Team That’s Built an Ion-Channel Exit Before
Navion’s leadership previously built Cavion, an ion-channel company acquired by Jazz Pharmaceuticals in 2019, a track record that helped draw a syndicate beyond its lead investor: 3B Future Health Fund, the UVA LVG Seed Fund, the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation, the VTC Innovation Fund, and Navion’s own management team all participated alongside Angelini Lumira.
