Cronus Pharma, a privately held veterinary generic pharmaceutical company based in East Brunswick, New Jersey, announced on August 26, 2026 the launch of Robenacoxib Injection, the first FDA-approved bioequivalent version of Elanco’s branded ONSIOR Injection. The drug is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory approved to control postoperative pain and inflammation in dogs four months and older following soft tissue surgery, and in cats four months and older following orthopedic surgery, ovariohysterectomy, or castration, with treatment limited to three days. Scott A. Krick, DVM, a consulting technical services veterinarian for Cronus, tied the launch to a common gap in post-surgical care: “Addressing post-operative pain is imperative in both dogs and cats. The launch of Robenacoxib Injection from Cronus Pharma provides a cost-effective NSAID option and reflects our commitment to expanding access to FDA-approved bioequivalent medications that support veterinarians, their patients, and pet owners.”
What the Approval Actually Covers
The FDA cleared Robenacoxib Injection under ANADA #200-804, formulated as a 20 mg/mL solution supplied in a 20 mL multidose vial, and the agency’s bioequivalence finding means it’s approved to perform the same as Elanco’s ONSIOR Injection, the reference-listed new animal drug already on the market. That distinction matters commercially: bioequivalent approvals let veterinary practices substitute a lower-cost generic for an established branded product without a new efficacy trial, since the FDA has already determined the two products work the same way in the body. One of Several Generic Launches This Year
This isn’t Cronus’s first bioequivalent launch in 2026. The company introduced Pimobendan Chewable Tablets in June, billed as the first FDA-approved bioequivalent of Boehringer Ingelheim’s Vetmedin for canine congestive heart failure, and brought Butorphic (butorphanol tartrate) sterile injectable solution to market last year. Cronus describes its portfolio as spanning 76 FDA-approved products, of which 26 are currently marketed across companion animal, equine, and production animal categories, positioning the robenacoxib launch as one entry in a steady cadence of generic approvals rather than a standalone event.
