Josh Schwartz Joins Legend Biotech as Senior Vice President

Legend Biotech, a global biotechnology company based in New Jersey, has hired Josh Schwartz, MD, MBA as Senior Vice President. Legend develops advanced cell therapies across several technology platforms, including autologous and allogeneic CAR-T and natural killer (NK) cell-based immunotherapies. Schwartz will work on-site at the company’s Bridgewater, New Jersey location.

Reflecting on his time at BeOne Medicines, Schwartz said it was “an honor and a privilege to lead the North America Medical Affairs team.”

Mirza Peljto, PhD, a medical affairs leader who reported directly to Schwartz, described him as “the best leader of people I have worked for.” Peljto pointed to Schwartz’s strategic vision, problem-solving and commitment to developing his people as his greatest strengths. He also noted that Schwartz’s teams have won company-wide awards for their collaborative work.

About Josh Schwartz

Schwartz joins Legend after more than four and a half years at BeOne Medicines, formerly BeiGene. He joined BeOne in March 2022 as Vice President, Medical Affairs – North America, and led the U.S. and Canadian medical teams across the hematology and solid tumor franchises. Before that, he was Vice President, Head of Medical Affairs at TG Therapeutics. At TG, he built the company’s global medical affairs organization from the ground up ahead of launches in lymphoma, CLL and relapsing multiple sclerosis. He led a 53-person team with an $18 million annual budget and developed the plan to expand medical affairs into Europe.

Schwartz spent more than seven years at Bristol Myers Squibb, most recently as Executive Director, U.S. Medical Affairs, Cardiovascular & Established Brands. Earlier at BMS, he led the national Health Systems and Pathology Diagnostic Liaison teams in U.S. Medical Oncology. In that role he guided field medical teams through launches of 12 new indications across nine tumor types for Opdivo, Yervoy and Empliciti, and his team had 100% voluntary retention. He first joined BMS in 2013 as a Field Medical Scientist during the launch of Opdivo. Before BMS, Schwartz was Chief Medical Officer of Carolina BioPharm, consulted for the North Carolina Center for Vaccine Innovation and PMG Research, and worked in technology asset management at Wake Forest University Health Sciences.

Schwartz earned his MD from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and his MBA from the Wake Forest University School of Business. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
