People on the Move: Alan Bash Promoted at Legend Biotech as Interim Chief Executive Officer

Legend Biotech, a Somerset, New Jersey-based global leader in cell therapy and the largest standalone cell therapy company, has appointed Alan Bash as Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective July 24, 2026. Bash, who previously served as President of the company’s CARVYKTI franchise, steps into the role following the resignation of Ying Huang, Ph.D., as CEO and board member. Dr. Huang will remain with the company as an advisor through August to support a smooth transition, and the board has launched a comprehensive search for a permanent successor.

About Alan Bash

Bash takes the helm at a pivotal moment for Legend Biotech, as the company works to expand access to CARVYKTI, its flagship CAR-T therapy for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma developed and marketed with collaborator Johnson & Johnson, while advancing a broader pipeline of cell therapy programs. Board Chairman Frank Zhang, EMBA, Ph.D., said the board has full confidence in Bash’s ability to provide continuity and disciplined execution during the transition, citing his deep knowledge of the business and significant commercial and operational experience as key strengths for the moment.

Bash joined Legend Biotech in October 2024 as President of CARVYKTI, leading the global franchise across commercial, medical, manufacturing, and quality organizations and focusing on translating innovation into patient impact through franchise growth and operational execution at scale. Before Legend, he served as Chief Executive Officer of ZielBio, Inc., and briefly as President and CEO of Checkmate Pharmaceuticals, a public, clinical-stage oncology biotech that was acquired by Regeneron during his tenure.

The bulk of Bash’s career was built over more than 22 years at Bristol Myers Squibb, where he rose from product manager to senior vice president. Most recently there, he served as Senior Vice President, Commercial Model Innovation, and before that as Senior Vice President and Head of Commercial for Immunology and Fibrosis, where he accelerated development and oversaw the commercial team for a novel TYK-2 inhibitor that has since received FDA approval. Earlier in his BMS tenure, he led the company’s worldwide immuno-oncology commercialization efforts as Vice President and Franchise Lead for Lung Cancer, and as Executive Director led the U.S. launch of the first PD-1 therapy and the first IO-IO combination therapy while serving as Franchise Lead for Metastatic Melanoma. He also spent time leading commercial strategy and planning for BMS’s Asia-Pacific region. Before his pharmaceutical career, Bash worked as a reporter for USA Today. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University.

Announcing the appointment on LinkedIn, Bash reflected on the opportunity and on the foundation built by his predecessor: “My confidence in our future is based on what I see across the company every day: exceptional people, a clear sense of purpose, and an unwavering commitment to patients. The opportunities ahead for Legend are significant. We have a differentiated commercial therapy, a promising pipeline, a talented leadership team, and a strategy that remains firmly in place.” In the company’s official announcement, he added: “I am honored to step into the role of Interim CEO and grateful for the Board’s confidence. My immediate focus will be on ensuring continuity across the business, maintaining strong execution, and supporting our teams as we continue advancing our commercial, clinical, and operational priorities.”
