A nearly decade-long Biogen engineer steps into a new leadership role at the company’s Research Triangle Park manufacturing site.
Lynsey Copley has been named Associate Director, Facilities Engineering at Biogen’s Research Triangle Park, North Carolina site, starting in October 2026. The role marks her latest step in a career of more than nine years at Biogen, where she has advanced from engineer to facilities engineering leadership.
The move comes as Biogen continues to invest in RTP, its largest manufacturing footprint, where the company is progressing a $2 billion investment in its existing manufacturing operations, as BioBuzz previously reported.
About Lynsey Copley
Copley most recently served as Senior Manager, Facilities Engineering at Biogen RTP. Before that, as Senior Engineer, she wrote the annual budget proposal that drove facility and utility upgrades and then coordinated those projects, totaling more than $100 million. She also served as lead engineer and subject matter expert for a $10 million capital project to increase water throughput capabilities, coordinated the simultaneous shutdown and return to service of four water systems, and served as system owner of the site’s clean and black utilities.
Over her Biogen career, Copley has held roles across facilities, plant, automation, and process engineering. As Facilities Engineering Manager, she led a team of eight to 10 direct reports, managed facility projects, and implemented energy-saving and sustainability initiatives. As Plant Engineer, she was responsible for utility operations during a management transition, serving as responsible engineer for systems including water for injection, clean steam, clean gases, HVAC, and electrical infrastructure. Earlier, as an automation and process engineer, she supported technology transfers from benchtop to 15,000-liter large-scale production and led a capital project to upgrade filter transfer stations in large-scale manufacturing.
Copley has also been active in Biogen’s culture, serving as Global Lead and previously Site Lead of the company’s LGBTQ Employee Resource Network.
In 2026, she received an Emerging Leader Award from The Manufacturing Institute and was inducted into the University of Arkansas Academy of Biological and Agricultural Engineers.
Copley holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Sustainability Studies from the University of Arkansas. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Biomanufacturing Science and a Women in Technical Leadership Executive Education Certificate from North Carolina State University.
