We’re excited to announce this year’s finalists for the third annual 2022 BioBuzz Awards. These awards celebrate the people and companies across our regional community and their efforts and accomplishments to impact human health and build a stronger biotech community.
Industry, regional funding and support organizations, the region’s university system and local and state government entities recognize this workforce challenge and have been collaborating to build the cell and gene therapy workforce infrastructure required to keep the personalized medicine workforce pipeline primed.
The Manufacturing Assistance Program is designed to help growth-stage stem cell companies fund and build out their manufacturing capabilities, which is a major need, particularly among the Fund’s portfolio companies that have reached this stage in their development.
The Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (MSCRF) is a champion for women in stem cell research. A host of women-led labs have received MSCRF support in pursuit of ground-breaking research in a wide-range of areas, including fields as diverse as blood brain barrier modeling, tissue engineering, autism, and rare disease therapeutics, among others.
The Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (MSCRF) is an integral organization to the vibrancy and innovation found in the life sciences ecosystem of Maryland. MSCRF’s mission is to develop new medical strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of human diseases, injuries, and conditions through human stem cells.
At MSCRF, Ben is responsible for management and oversight of the research portfolio. In this role, Ben aspires to develop and support stem cell and regenerative medicine research in the state of Maryland by working with scientists and various stakeholders to promote commercialization of stem cell technologies for treating patients at the bedside.
Governor Larry Hogan today announced a new Maryland Cancer Moonshot Initiative to expand and accelerate cancer detection, screening, prevention, treatment, and research in the state. The state is committing $216 million in investments as a down payment to jumpstart this far-reaching initiative to save lives, including the first ever comprehensive cancer center in Prince George’s County.

Dr. Amritha Jaishankar serves as the Director, Programs and Strategic Alliances, Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (MSCRF). In this role, Amritha is responsible for oversight of programs, scientific management, and oversight of the portfolio, as well as MSCRF business development. She works with stem cell scientists across Maryland to develop a collaborative research program and promote commercialization of stem cell technologies.
