This article is part of our 5 Questions With series, one of our ongoing People & Places Features. We love it because despite the consistent questioning, the answers are all unique. Be sure to FOLLOW us on LinkedIn to tell us what you think. |
1. What did you want to be when you grow up? How’d you get from there to here?
I grew up an avid outdoorsman, and I was always inspired to work in some capacity to support sustainable development and environmental protection. I interned with environmental non-profits during and after college but ultimately took a job as a medical malpractice paralegal after receiving my paralegal certificate from Villanova University. I then received my master’s degree in environmental public policy from Drexel University. After graduate school, I am now affiliated with L2C Partners, a firm that’s committed to innovators and to moving inventions from the lab (or the studio) to the forefront, where I consult on technology transfer matters for their amazing university and research center clients. My work allows me to not only bring innovative and lifesaving therapies to society but also to continue to serve the environment by working to commercialize innovative technologies with a climate or environmentally-friendly focus.
2. How are you helping to build a more connected community?
BioBuzz’s mission is simple: to be more connected. Our regionally-focused storytelling, programs, events and experiences create, connect and amplify impact across the life science workforce in growing biohubs. We vibe with people who value community and connection like us. We’d love for you to share how you’re building a more connected community… and any support that you need from our community to continue to accomplish this mission.
Building a connected ecosystem between L2C Partner institutions and industry partners is essential. Often, industry partners focus on R1 research institutions for new technologies. Our goal is to facilitate mutually beneficial relationships between industry partners and the amazing and potentially life-changing research at our smaller client institutions.
3. What are currently buzzing about? Anything and everything…
I am working on several exciting technology marketing projects, including innovative protecting groups for the synthesis of benzoxaborole from Saint Joseph’s University, a novel HealDot suture and Lyme Disease vaccine from the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, and novel, environmentally benign disinfectant compounds from Villanova University. Oh yes, and an invention to reduce waste in the brewing of beer.
3. If you could travel back in time – what early career advice would you give yourself?
OR What career advice would you shout from the rooftops now?
I would tell myself to focus more on relationship building and expanding my network instead of simply applying to jobs cold. I have found that a professional personal network is one of the most valuable resources in getting a new job and succeeding in a new role.
4. FUN question. What’s your superpower?
I have always been highly adaptable across multiple disciplines, which has allowed me to be successful as a professional. With a diverse educational background in political science, business, public policy, and paralegal studies, I hold a unique perspective that allows me to think outside the box and develop creative solutions to advance the strategic agenda of the clients I serve.
