The award, part of Governor Moore’s $1.23M Maryland Lighthouse Industries Upskilling and Reskilling Program, will help incumbent workers at Maryland development and manufacturing companies become AI champions inside the state’s most regulated industry.
BALTIMORE, Md. — July 16, 2026 — BioBuzz Networks has been named an awardee of the Maryland Lighthouse Industries Upskilling and Reskilling Program, Governor Wes Moore and the Maryland Department of Labor announced last week. BioBuzz is the sole life sciences awardee in the statewide program, a $1.23 million investment funded through Maryland’s Talent Innovation Fund that will support nearly 600 workers across the state’s lighthouse industries — life sciences, technology, aerospace, defense, and manufacturing.
With the award, BioBuzz will launch an AI-GMP Training Accelerator designed for incumbent biotech workers at Maryland development and manufacturing companies. The program will upskill experienced professionals to become AI champions and subject matter experts within their own organizations — giving Maryland biopharma companies the internal expertise they need to pilot, adopt, and scale AI responsibly inside GMP-regulated environments.
That focus on incumbent workers is deliberate. AI adoption in biopharma manufacturing isn’t slowed by a lack of tools — it’s slowed by a lack of people who understand both the technology and the regulatory realities of GMP operations. By training the workers already inside these companies, the accelerator aims to close that gap from within.

BioBuzz will deliver the program alongside a consortium of partners, including ProcellaRX, who will take a leading role in the curriculum, as well as CareerBuildAI, LearnForgeAI, Enclavia.ai and Kymanox — organizations that together span AI-enabled training, GMP and regulatory expertise, and life sciences operations.
The industry partners who have signed up to be part of the accelerator include REGENXBIO, Xcellon Biologics, MilliporeSigma and Kemp Proteins. Other industry partners are welcome to join at this time and should contact BioBuzz to learn more about how their workforce can get involved.
ProcellaRX brings deep credibility at exactly the intersection this program targets. Founder and CEO Dori Gonzalez-Acevedo serves as Co-Lead of the ISPE Digital Validation Subcommittee and is a contributing author to the forthcoming ISPE Good Practice Guide on Digital Validation. She is the creator of the DQI Framework, author of The Courage to Reinvent, and recently signed the charter as founding chair of the ISPE Chesapeake Bay Area Chapter’s GAMP Community of Practice — a new home for practitioners across Maryland, Virginia, and DC navigating computerized systems, AI/ML, and data integrity decisions in the third-largest biopharma cluster in the country.

This accelerator invests in the practitioners who already live with that scrutiny every day, and gives them the fluency to lead AI adoption from the inside — building quality decisions that survive any regulator’s question.”
Announcing the awards, Governor Moore said the program is about “leaving no one behind” as emerging technologies reshape the state’s high-growth industries. Maryland Labor Secretary Portia Wu noted that Maryland’s combination of a highly skilled workforce and innovative companies uniquely positions the state to lead the AI economy.
The Maryland Department of Labor developed the program in consultation with the Governor’s Workforce Development Board, and the awards build on the Moore-Miller administration’s broader investments in preparing Maryland’s workforce for the AI economy, including the Lighthouse Industries and AI Internship Program announced in February.
For Maryland’s biotech ecosystem, the signal is clear: the state isn’t just funding AI training — it’s betting that the region’s incumbent workforce is the fastest path to AI leadership in the life sciences. The AI-GMP Training Accelerator is where that bet gets put to work.
