BioHealth Capital Region – Regional Life Sciences Roundup – November 5, 2026
This week brings changes in biotech businesses alongside practical routes into genetic testing and manufacturing careers. The connection is preparation for what comes next, whether that means combining companies, making testing available at no cost to eligible patients, or helping people learn the work of biomanufacturing. Those changes show up at different scales, from a completed merger to a four-week classroom program.
Supernus and Indivior completed their merger, while GeneDx and Mirum Pharmaceuticals launched sponsored genetic testing programs. Their collaboration provides no-cost exome testing for eligible patients with unexplained cholestasis, early-onset cataracts, or certain peroxisomal disorders. In Norfolk, Virginia, ReAlta Life Sciences launched KnowHIE, an educational resource for families of babies diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. Testing access and family education are distinct efforts, both focused on helping people navigate difficult diagnostic territory.
The people side is moving too. Frederick Community College’s eighth Biotech Boot Camp cohort brings students, working professionals, and people displaced by layoffs into a free program requiring no prior experience. BioHub Maryland’s Baltimore manufacturing event offered another route into the field through professional presentations and a laboratory tour.
