Greater Philadelphia Life Sciences News: Agilent’s Philly Acquisition, GSK’s Big Bet & More

Greater Philadelphia – Regional Life Sciences Roundup – October 15, 2026

Greater Philadelphia spent this week holding on to what it built. Across the send, the next step kept going to someone or something already close by: a board member moving into the CEO seat, a longtime partner becoming the parent company, a medtech product designed and built entirely in-house, and a new push to keep biotech manufacturing in the region instead of letting it leave once companies scale. It isn’t as flashy as a mega-round, but it’s what decides whether the region’s growth sticks.

A Philadelphia organization was tapped by the federal government to lead a new Mid-Atlantic effort to get young companies production-ready here, so the manufacturing and the jobs that come with it stay in the region. One of the world’s largest biopharma companies announced a major expansion in the Philadelphia suburbs, bringing manufacturing, R&D and quality together on a single site with a commitment to the people already working there. A Tokyo biotech chose Philadelphia for its first move outside Japan to take on one of cell therapy’s biggest hurdles: making these treatments at scale.

Leadership followed the same pattern. A Plymouth Meeting rare disease company named its next CEO from its own boardroom. Minaris Advanced Testing promoted Athenesia Faggins to lead quality and compliance after a career built across the region, from the lab bench to the director’s office.

Some deals grew out of long relationships, too. A Philadelphia digital pathology company is being acquired by the global life sciences company it first worked with as a partner years ago. A Malvern medtech company cleared the FDA with a surgical implant designed and built entirely by its own team.
