Makiko (Miko) Andrews, Patent Paralegal

Makiko (Miko) Andrews is a well-adept and accomplished IP Paralegal with 20+ years of experience managing multiple teams and projects, handling various patent prosecution matters.

After graduating from Atomi University in Japan with a B.A. in Art History, Miko was invited to join the summer internship program at National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. She further studied Art History in MA level course at American University. Before joining McBee, Moore, & Vanik as an IP Paralegal, Miko has been working exclusively in patent prosecution at both large and boutique firms in the DC metropolitan area.

Miko also served as a liaison for Japanese clients to assure quality meets expectations for Japanese clients and reviewing US filings to meet client instructions. Armed with a strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver measurable results while adhering to strict, client specific guidelines in a timely manner. Strong interpersonal communication skills as well as technical mastery in a variety of programs and software.

Outside of work, Miko enjoys workout at a gym, traveling abroad, studying Swedish for fun.

Kurt Buechle, Counsel

Kurt Buechle has been a patent attorney for almost twenty years.  His patent law experience has encompassed a wide range of technologies pertaining to the life sciences, chemistry, electromechanical devices, artificial intelligence, and telecommunications.  His skills include patent preparation, prosecution, client counseling, portfolio management, due diligence, contracts, negotiations, mergers & acquisitions, technology transfer, litigation, and opinions.  Kurt’s legal experience also includes trademark, trade secret, copyright, and FDA regulatory law. 

His client counseling has involved extensive interactions with inventors, in-house counsel, and management.  Clients have included large corporations, small companies, start-ups, individual inventors, non-profit foundations, academia, and the federal government.  Many years of hands-on laboratory experience in the chemical and life sciences, both as an undergraduate and as a Ph.D. candidate, allows him to clearly communicate with inventors, scientists, and engineers.  Kurt enjoys and excels at efficiently obtaining patents and aiding clients in their strategy for product development with a keen understanding of their industry and competitor intellectual property. 

Outside the office, Kurt likes spending time with his wife and daughters, working in the yard, and reading a good book.
