People on the Move: Amanda Owens Joins Precision for Medicine as General Manager, Biospecimen Solutions

Precision for Medicine has named Amanda Owens General Manager, Biospecimen Solutions, where she will lead commercial and operational strategy as the Bethesda, Maryland-based company works to expand access to fit-for-purpose biospecimens for advanced research.

About Amanda Owens

In the role, Owens is focused on connecting scientific requirements with fit-for-purpose biospecimen solutions, strengthening strategic partnerships, and driving execution across commercial and operational functions to support next-generation drug development. Precision for Medicine President Sofia Baig said access to fully characterized biological samples “has become a strategic imperative” as the industry moves toward increasingly complex modalities.

Owens said matching the right biospecimen to a project is “one of the central challenges in our industry,” requiring an understanding of what a sponsor needs today and how that need evolves over the course of their research. She added that quality is equally important: “Precision for Medicine realizes this at a deeper level because our laboratory capabilities allow us to go beyond simply providing a biospecimen to understand and characterize the biology behind it. That combination creates an opportunity to move beyond transactional sourcing toward true consultative partnerships.”

Owens brings more than 15 years of experience across biospecimens, molecular characterization, gene editing, and advanced therapies. She joins Precision for Medicine from Landmark Bio, where she spent a year as SVP, Commercial. Before that, she was VP, Commercial at EditCo Bio, a CRISPR-based genome engineering company, where she led global commercial functions spanning sales, marketing, product management, and customer service, and supported investor engagement across two successful fundraising rounds.

Owens spent more than two and a half years at Synthego Corporation, rising from Senior Director, Global Strategic Accounts to VP, Global Sales and Enablement, leading global sales and account teams supporting clients using CRISPR-based genome engineering products. Before Synthego, she spent more than eight years at Discovery Life Sciences, rising from Clinical Site Development Representative to VP, Global Biopharma Sales, where she led global sales, strategic planning, and relationship development for six major global biopharma accounts across a portfolio spanning human biospecimens, histopathology, genomics, cell biology, and flow services. Alongside her new role at Precision for Medicine, Owens continues to run her own consultancy, AO BioConsulting LLC, which she founded in 2025 to advise early-stage biotech founders and investors on commercial planning and fundraising readiness.

Owens holds an MBA from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a Master of Arts in Physical and Biological Anthropology from the University of Alabama, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology, also from the University of Alabama.
