Frederick, Maryland is a well established hub with more than 130 Bio companies including AstraZeneca, Lonza, Kite Pharma, Qiagen and Thermo Fisher. Even as most of the biotech market is still in limbo, Frederick continues to see growth with three notable companies recently announcing significant expansions in the area. Precision for Medicine, BioFactura, and Cartesian Therapeutics have all chosen Frederick to grow their operations, reflecting the region’s appeal as a prime location for biotech innovation and development.
Precision for Medicine Expands Presence in Riverside Tech Park
Precision for Medicine, a clinical development company, has signed a lease to expand with St. John Properties, Inc., taking over 41,040 square feet at 8440 Broadband Drive within Riverside Tech Park. This new space will add to their existing 75,000 square foot facility at 8425 Precision Way, bringing their total footprint to over 116,000 square feet. Precision for Medicine, which has been operating in Frederick since 1999, will use the new space for additional office and laboratory facilities to support its growing repository operations related to clinical trials, patient biology, and manufacturing services.
BioFactura Triples Facility Space
BioFactura, Inc., another biotech firm, is more than tripling its facility space in Frederick. The company has signed a lease for 12,000 square feet at Riverside Tech Park, expanding from their previous 5,520 square feet at 8435 Progress Drive. This expansion brings BioFactura’s total presence in the park to 17,520 square feet. The company anticipates hiring over 50 new employees, including engineers, scientists, and quality-control professionals, as it scales up its operations.
Cartesian Therapeutics Establishes New Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility
Cartesian Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotech company pioneering mRNA cell therapy for autoimmune diseases, is moving its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility from Gaithersburg, MD to Frederick. The new 20,000 square foot facility at 7495 New Horizon Way is a state-of-the-art, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant incubator. This move is part of Cartesian’s strategy to scale its production of clinical and commercial products, supporting its pipeline of mRNA cell therapies designed for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. The new headquarters will enhance Cartesian’s manufacturing capabilities and provide the infrastructure needed for their next phase of growth.
Frederick’s growing biotech community is a testament to the region’s supportive environment for innovation and business growth. These expansions not only bring economic benefits but also enhance Frederick’s reputation as a leading destination for biotech companies.
