Winston-Salem-based BRINTER Inc. has been recognized on TIME Magazine’s prestigious “Best Inventions of 2025” list for its groundbreaking work in 3D bioprinted tissue technology.

BRINTER’s innovative approach to creating bio-synthetic implants for soft tissue repair represents a major advancement in regenerative medicine, with potential applications ranging from rotator cuff repairs to ligament reconstruction. According to industry analysis, while the technology is still in its early stages, with animal testing currently underway, the platform shows considerable promise for eventually enabling 3D printing to repair or replace living tissue—a goal that bioprinting researchers have pursued for over a decade.

The recognition comes as BRINTER continues to expand its research presence and capabilities. With operations in Winston-Salem, Finland and California, the company has established a research collaboration at Wake Forest University’s Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) where it works with the RegenMed Hub to advance bioprinting applications. In 2024, BRINTER was selected by the European Space Agency to provide its Brinter Core bioprinter for experiments aboard the International Space Station, exploring how tissue forms in microgravity conditions.

The company has secured $2 million in pre-seed funding and $4 million in grant funding, with three approved patents and six patents pending.

Earlier this year, BRINTER was honored with the Entrepreneurial Excellence Award at Triad BioNight, a celebration of the Piedmont Triad region’s life sciences industry organized by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. The award recognized the company’s development of biosynthetic mesh implants for tendon management to accelerate tissue healing and reduce patient complications.
